Discovering Sugar Free and Carb Free Wine: A Health-Conscious Drinker’s Liberation

As the health trends around low carb and low/no sugar continue to become more popular, us ‘health-conscious wine drinkers’ are faced with a serious problem. How do we continue to drink our favourite drink (wine) while continuing to keep in line with our health goals?

I mean sure, there is vodka, gin, tequila and other spirits that are low carb, but drinking spirits with soda water and a lime wedge is only so much fun. Plus, I think we can all agree that wine holds a very special place in our hearts as females. There is nothing more comforting than pouring that first glass of wine with your favourite girl friends as you talk through the ups and downs of your week. The first crisp, refreshing sip on a warm sunny day is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

I find it very easy to commit to low carb and no sugar as a diet when it comes to food. I mean, I get to eat as much cheese, meat and peanut butter as I want, it’s perfect for me. Unfortunately, when it comes to wine, I find it impossible to resist my treat in the week. I found myself becoming anxious as the weekend loomed as I knew I’d have to sit with my friends and sip on a boring vodka tonic while they made their way through a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir.

I accepted this was my fate and decided I needed to find a way to grow and develop a sugar free and carb free wine. At that point, I suddenly remembered Google existed (lol) and searched the world wide web for my sugar and carb free wine alternative. At this point, I was ready to pay anything. Then. I found it. A website completely dedicated to sugar free and carb free wine in the UK and the prices were so reasonable! Result!

I immediately ordered two bottles of Rose for the weekend and was ready to test it out. It had to have the same taste and alcohol percentage, these were things I couldn’t compromise on. We popped open the first bottle and poured the first glass – it smelt good, looked good, and had 13% ABV. Now for the taste… it was delicious. It was refreshing, crisp, dry and floral and tasted exactly how one would expect your traditional wine to taste. We couldn’t believe that we had found a perfect replacement for wine that had NO sugar, NO carbs and low in calories!

We got through the bottles of wine very quickly and amazingly, the next day I had no hangover. Naturally, I was still dehydrated as one would expect from drinking, but the usual headache wasn’t there. I also tend to break out from drinking a lot of wine and my skin was unchanged. It made sense as the high content of sugar would obviously cause skin fluctuations and headaches, but I always blamed the alcohol content for any symptoms, rather than the sugar content.

Since trying sugar free and carb free wine, I definitely will not be looking back. I also found that there are plenty of websites that offer such wine so there are lots to choose from! I went with drinkwelluk.com but there are a few around, including on Amazon, so definitely check it out if you are looking to make healthier choices, but can’t resist a glass of good wine. Your friends will forever thank you for introducing it to them. So get to the gym, hit your macros and always, always know you can enjoy that glass of wine.
